Broncos Plan To Bring Back WRs Demaryius Thomas & Emmanuel Sanders

On Wednesday, Broncos executive VP John Elway told reporters that they plan to bring back receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, which includes picking up Thomas’ $4 million option for the 2018 season.

“The plan is to bring them back,” Elway said, per Nicki Jhabvala.

There were some rumors the Denver may have to move on from one of them in order to create cap space to pursue a quarterback.

However, if Denver is going to compete with other teams for quarterbacks, it would certainly help their cause to have quality receiver depth to pitch to free agents.

Thomas, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Broncos back in 2010. He’s entering the fourth year of his five-year, $70 million contract that included $43.5 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $8.5 million and $14 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Thomas appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and caught 83 passes for 949 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 46 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.

Sanders, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. He played out his rookie contract before signing on with the Broncos back in 2014.

Sanders is entering the third year of his four-year, $38.6 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $8.15 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Sanders appeared in 12 games and caught 47 passes for 555 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 64 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Thomas and Sanders as the news is available.
