Broncos Possibly In The Market For RB Help?

Mike Klis of the Denver Post believes the Broncos would be better off allowing their running backs to handle the workload in 2014 rather than bring in some of the best available veteranĀ free agents.

All indicationsĀ out of Denver are that they intend to move forward with former second-round pick Montee Ball as their No. 1 running back. The Broncos are likely to get C.J. Anderson involved as well, and there still is a chance that Ronnie Hillman could work his way into the rotation as well.

The available free agents options aren’t exactly all that inspiring. Right now, we haveĀ Brian Leonard,Ā Ronnie Brown,Ā Michael Bush andĀ La’Rod Stephens-Howling as the best available running backs. You could make the case that Felix Jones is worth consideration as well.

Bush, 29, was a large disappointment for the Bears and averaged a meager 3.9-yards-per-carry for them.

Ronnie, 32, despite his age and mileage has had someĀ moments in recent years, but he too averaged below 4-yards-per-carry.

Stephens-Howling, 27, missed then entire 2013 season after he suffered a torn ACL, so that could still be a concern for prospective teams.

All things considered, I would have to agree with Klis that Broncos would be better off sticking withĀ their younger running backs. Both Ball and Anderson have shown flashes of being effective players and there is even a chance that Hillman could elevate his game as he appears to be entering a make-or-break season.

We have all of these players listed in our recent updatedĀ Top 50 – Best Available Free AgentsĀ list.
