Broncos Promote CB Taurean Nixon, Cut TE John Phillips

According to Mike Klis, the Broncos promoted CB Taurean Nixon to their active roster and placed TE John Phillips on waivers in a corresponding roster move.

Nixon, 25, was taken in the seventh-round of the 2015 NFL draft. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later signed to their practice squad.

Denver promoted Nixon to their active roster back in January but was re-signed to the practice squad after being among the team’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.

During the preseason, Nixon appeared in all four games for the Broncos and totaled 10 tackles and a pass defense.

Phillips, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2009. He spent four years in Dallas before signing a three-year contract with the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

The Chargers released Phillips last year before bringing him back at the start of the season. He wound up signing a contract with Denver back in July.

In 2015, Phillips appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers and recorded 10 receptions for 69 yards receiving and one touchdown.
