The Denver Broncos announced the release of veteran TE Joel Dreessen on Tuesday with a failed physical designation.
Denver will now move forward with Julius Thomas, Jacob Tamme and Virgil Green as the top-three tight ends.
Dreessen, 31, was entering the final year of his three-year, $8.5 million contract and would have made $2.5 million for the upcoming season.
The Broncos will save $2.5 million in cap space following this move, according to OverTheCap.com.
Last year, Dreessen appeared in 13 games and caught seven passes for 47 yards receiving and a touchdown.
