Broncos Sign Demaryius Thomas To A Five-Year, $70M Deal

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Broncos have reached an agreement with WR Demaryius Thomas on a five-year, $70 million deal that includes $43.5 million guaranteed.

  • Mike Klis reports that Thomas’ contract includes $35 million fully guaranteed.
  • According to Albert Breer, Thomas’ $35 million fully guaranteed will be paid out over the first two years, which means he’ll make $7 million more than being franchised in back-to-back years.

This agreement almost identical to the contract signed by Cowboys WR Dez Bryant. Although, Bryant’s new deal reportedly includes $45 million guaranteed, but this is a slight difference in the end.

Reports entering today were very skeptical that a deal between the Broncos and Thomas would get done. However, it appears as though the two sides were monitoring the ongoing discussions in Dallas.

Joel Corry mentions that the agreement between the Broncos and Thomas will likely lead to the Broncos franchising OLB Von Miller next year.

Thomas, 27, would have made a base salary of $12.82 million guaranteed for the 2015 season under the franchise tag.

In 2014, Thomas caught 111 passes for 1,619 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 receiver in the league out of 110 qualifying players.
