The Broncos have already announced the signing of G Evan Mathis via their Twitter account.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing a league source, reports that the Broncos have agreed to terms with veteran G Evan Mathis on a one-year deal.

  • Adam Caplan reports that Mathis’ new contract is worth up to $4 million if he reaches playing time bonuses included in the agreement.
  • Mike Klis adds that the base value of Mathis’ deal is $2.5 million.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, Mathis turned down an offer of $5.5 million for the 2015 season from another team, which is the salary he was set to make from the Eagles before he was released.

Mathis’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, mentioned earlier in the week that his client expect to make a decision on his next team by the end of the week, but there really wasn’t any indication that he would be joining the Broncos.

The Seahawks hosted him for a visit this past weekend and the Chiefs, Dolphins and Titans came up as other potential options. However, it looks like Mathis felt Denver was the right fit for him.

Mathis, 33, was among the best available free agents, but it took quite a while for him find his next team.

Last year, Mathis appeared in nine games for the Eagles after he dealt with an MCL injury. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2 guard out of 78 qualifying players.

We had Mathis rated as the No. 1 player in our Top 25 Available Free Agents list.
