Broncos Starting Trevor Siemian In 2nd Preseason Game, Could Announce Starting QB After Game

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak announced Thursday that Trevor Siemian will start at quarterback for their second preseason game against the 49ers.

Kubiak added that Siemian and Mark Sanchez will likely play a quarter and a half apiece with first-round QB Paxton Lunch playing the rest of the game, per Nicki Jhabvala. Siemian and Sanchez should each get time with the first-team unit, according to Kubiak.

Kubiak also mentioned that he would like to pick a Week 1 starter after this game, but he doesn’t know if he will, per Jhabvala.

Here’s how Sanchez and Siemian performed last week:

  • Siemian: 7 of 12 (58.3 percent), 88 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, 81.2 QB rating.
  • Sanchez: 10 of 13 (76.9 percent), 99 yards, one touchdown, one interception, 91.5 QB rating.

Siemian, 24, was taken in the seventh round of last year’s draft by the Broncos. He’s in the second year of his four-year, $2.33 million contract and stands to make a base salary $525,000 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Siemian appeared in one game for the Broncos, but just took a knee for them late into the game.

We’ll have more regarding the Broncos’ quarterback battle as the news is available.
