Broncos In Extensions Talks With WR Emmanuel Sanders & LB Brandon Marshall

According to Mike Klis of 9News, the Broncos have shifted gears a bit from a long-term deal for franchise OLB Von Miller and are now engaged in negotiations with WR Emmanuel Sanders and LB Brandon Marshall regarding contract extensions.

Klis reports that the Broncos submitted an offer to Sanders last week and have received a counter offer from his agent Todd France.

However, Denver is reportedly further along in contract negotiations with Marshall, who is currently a restricted free agent. Klis mentions that this is likely due to the fact that the deadline to negotiate with Marshall is next Wednesday.

Sanders has said that his “heart is in Denver” and he’s hoping to retire as a Bronco.

Obviously, my heart is in Denver, this city has been so good to me beyond what I can explain,” Sanders said. “From the Broncos Huddle, being with you, to going out and seeing in my first year having so many jerseys, and having so many fans out here in this market. It’s just great to me.

Who knows what’s going to happen with the contract situation. I want to retire a Bronco. I think everyone wants to know, but it’s all about being able to say, ‘I’m getting paid what I put out.’’

Sanders, 29, Sanders, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2010. After playing out his rookie contract, Sanders signed a three-year, $15 million contract that included $6 million guaranteed.

He’s currently in the final year of the agreement and stands to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Sanders appeared in 15 games for the Broncos and recorded 76 receptions for, 1,135 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 10 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.

Marshall, 26, is a former fifth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2012. However, he lasted just over a year in Jacksonville before he was waived at the start of the 2013 season and later signed to the Broncos practice squad.

Denver elected to use a second-round tender on Marshall that will cost them $2.553 million for the 2016 season. However, they would recoup a second-round pick if he receives an offer sheet from another team, and they don’t match the offer.

In 2015, Marshall appeared in all 16 games and recorded 102 tackles, 1.5 sacks, an interception, two forced fumbles and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.
