Broncos Have Explored Trades Involving QB Mark Sanchez & RB Ronnie Hillman

Mike Klis of 9 News reports that multiple teams have expressed “measured interest” in Broncos backup QB Mark Sanchez, including the Cowboys and 49ers.

Klis says that the Broncos do want to have a veteran quarterback on their roster to go along with Trevor Siemian and first-round pick Paxton Lynch. However, it’s unlikely that Sanchez will be that guy.

Instead, Klis suggests someone like Christian Ponder, Ryan Lindley, Austin Davis or T.J. Yates could make sense for Denver.

According to Vic Lombardi of 950 Denver, the Broncos are fielding trade offers for veteran RB Ronnie Hillman.

The Cowboys and Vikings have both been tossed out as potential landing spots for Sanchez in a potential trade, so that’s at least something to keep an eye on.

Sanchez, 29, is in the final year of his two-year, $9 million contract that includes $5.5 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $4.5 million for the 2016 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Sanchez would free up $4.5 million in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2015, Sanchez appeared in four games for the Eagles and threw for 616 yards while completing 64.8 percent of his passes to go along with four touchdowns and four interceptions.

Hillman, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Broncos back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract before re-signing with Denver on a one-year, $2 million contract this past April.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Hillman would free up $1.9 million in available cap space while creating $100,000 in dead money.

In 2015, Hillman appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and ran for 863 yards on 207 carries (4.2 YPC) to go along with 24 receptions for 111 yards receiving and seven total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 49 running back out of qualifying 69 players.
