Broncos Worked Out 9 Including S Elijah Shumate & LB J.R. Tavai

According to Howard Balzer, the Broncos worked out nine players on Tuesday including S Elijah Shumate, LB Quentin Gause, LB Lenny Jones, LB J.R. Tavai, LB Kyrie Wilson, DE Deonte Gibson, DE Ian Seau, DE Josh Shirley and TE Steven Scheu.

Shumate, 22, wound up signing on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in May. He was in the first year of his three-year, $1.62 million rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season when the Bucs waived him with an injury designation.

Shumate later cleared waivers and reverted to their injured reserve list before being cut loose with an injury settlement.

He has gained a large amount of interest since becoming a free agent and has worked out for the Raiders, Jets, Seahawks, and Jaguars up to this point.

During his college career, Shumate recorded 168 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery, two interceptions and 10 pass defenses.

Tavai, 23, wound up signing on with the Titans as undrafted free agent out of USC back in May of last year. He was waived with an injury settlement at the start of last season but later signed on to the Titans’ practice squad towards the end of the year.

Unfortunately, Tennessee elected to cut Tavai loose coming out of the preseason a few months ago.

In 2015, Tavai appeared in four games for the Titans and recorded three tackles, one sack and a forced fumble.
