Trent Richardson Has No Intentions Of Missing Week 8’s Game

Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal tweets that Browns RB Trent Richardson has no intentions to sitting out of Week 8’s game against the Chargers.

“I’m not gonna sit down. It’s just never been in me to sit down.” Richardson said, “I’m gonna go out there & see what I can do. If I can’t finish the game, Montario’s gonna be there.”

The Browns coaching staff is in a jeopardy here. They can’t afford losing Richardson for an extended period of time, and playing him could end up being a risk. If Richardson doesn’t play on Sunday, look for Montario Hardesty to handle the workload with Chris Ogbonnaya getting the 3rd down duties.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reported on SportsCenter Tuesday that the Browns are discussing shutting down rookie running back Trent Richardson through their bye in Week 10.

“The team (is) now discussing whether to hold him out through the bye week to allow him to heal,” Werder said, via Rotoworld. “The fear being that if they don’t, he’ll be debilitated by his injury all year long. There’s internal conflict about shutting him down, though, because Pat Shurmur the coach has to win some games here. They’ve only got one victory and Jimmy Haslam the new owner says he wants a stronger finish if he’s going to bring back the coaching staff.”

According to Werder, Richardson’s rib cartiligde injury is “serious,” and that a “direct hit,” in the second quarter during Sunday’s loss to the Colts aggravated the injury. The Browns coaching staff is in a bind here. They need to start winning games and with Richardson out for a period of time certainly doesn’t help their cause. We’ll have more info as this story develops.

Browns running back Trent Richardson did not play a single snap in the second half. Richardson wasn’t held out of the second half during yesterday’s loss to the Colts due to his rib cartiligde injury, but rather due to his performance.

“That’s something you will have to ask Pat [Shurmur],” Richardson said, via the Akron Beacon Journal. “For me, I thought I should have been in the game, but that’s any athlete, anyone who has that fight in him and is competitive. I’m proud of what Montario did. He always does a great job when he gets in. Coach made a smart decision.”

Due to a the Kevlar vest he was wearing, Richardson said following the game that he didn’t experience any pain during yesterday’s game. With only eight yards on eight carries, it’s safe to say Richardson struggled against one of the league’s worst run defenses. Montario Hardesty stepped in as Richardson’s replacement in the second half. Hardesty had 28 yards rushing on seven carries. While Richardson say’s he didn’t have any pain during yesterday’s game, you have to wonder if his rib injury contributed to his lack of production. If Richardson isn’t 100 percent healthy for Week 8, Hardesty could potentially take some of his workload.
