Browns C Alex Mack Won’t Waive No-Trade Clause, Staying With Browns

Browns C Alex Mack distributed a statement to the media Monday explaining that he won’t waive his no-trade clause, and will instead remain with the team for the remainder of the season.

“I have a ‘no trade’ clause in my contract,” Mack said. “It was included for a good reason: I’m not leaving my teammates, coaches and Browns fans while there is work this season to be finished.”

Reports from earlier in the day indicated that Mack could be the most notable player on the move at the trade deadline, if a contender was willing to make an attractive offer to the Browns.

Mack, 29, is technically in the second year of his five-year, $42 million contract that included $26 million guaranteed. However, the contract gives him the ability to opt out next year.

He’ll make a base salary of $8 million (2015), $8 million (2016), and $8 million (2017-18) over the remainder of the agreement. It’s worth mentioning that Mack has a no-trade clause.

This year, Mack has also appeared in all seven games and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 13 center out of 35 qualifying players.
