Sources tell Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that Browns rookie DeShone Kizer has won the team’s starting quarterback job.

“I feel comfortable with him,” Jackson said after the game. “He has the right feel for me and for what I’m looking for.

“He handled things really well,’‘ Jackson added. “His eyes were good, the conversations we had was what you want with your quarterback. he managed the team well. He did some really good things and we’ll keep coaching him up.

Following Saturday night’s game, Browns HC Hue Jackson told reporters (per Mary Kay Cabot) that he’s “very close” to naming rookie DeShone Kizer the team’s starting quarterback.

Jackson added that he plans to watch the tape before announcing anything, but he believes Kizer has the skillset he’s looking for at the position.

Kizer finished the game completing just 6-of-18 pass attempts for 93 yards with an interception, but his overall play was more encouraging than these stats.

All indications have been that Kizer is the favorite to win the job and reports surfaced earlier in the week that Cleveland is still fielding trade offers for Brock Osweiler, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise to hear Kizer is their guy in the coming days.

Kizer, 21, was selected with the No. 52 overall pick by the Browns. Some felt that Kizer has first-round ability and the highest ceiling of any of this year’s quarterback prospects, but he was coming off of a disappointing college season and struggled with consistency, which led to him falling to the Browns in round two.

According to OverTheCap.com, Kizer signed a four-year contract worth $4,498,412, which includes a signing bonus of $1,738,844.

During his two-year college career at Notre Dame, Kizer completed 422 passes on 695 attempts (60.7 percent) for 5,805 passing yards, 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding the Browns as the news is available.
