Browns Could Potentially Have Interest In Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe?

Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe has officially been suspended for the first game of the 2014 season, and according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, his $10.75 million base salary for the 2015 season is no longer guaranteed.

This creates a scenario where the Chiefs could look to move from Bowe next year, depending on his performance this season.

However, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk connects a few dots between the Browns and Chiefs regarding a potential trade involving Bowe.

The Browns are still waiting to hear whether or not Josh Gordon will be suspended for the entire 2014 season, but in the event the ban is upheld, there is no question that they could use another receiver.

Florio points out that Browns G.M. Ray Farmer actually worked with the Chiefs when they drafted Bowe some years ago, so he is more than familiar with him as a player.

Florio does admit that it wouldn’t make sense for Cleveland to part with compensation for Bowe and take on his salary if they could wait until he’s released and sign him as a free agent.

There is also the issue of getting Bowe up to speed in the Browns’ offense, as trading a player in the NFL creates a much more difficult transition than in other sports.

It’s worth mentioning that this is a hypothetical scenario and Florio isn’t reporting any interest between the two parties. However, you would have to think that the Browns would consider bringing him aboard if the opportunity presented itself.

Bowe, 29, is entering the second year of his five-year, $56 million contract that includes $26 million guaranteed.

Last year, Bowe appeared in 15 games and caught 57 passes for 673 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has Bowe rated as the No. 48 receiver in the league last year.
