Browns Dream Scenario: Myles Garrett At No. 1 & Trade No. 12 For Jimmy Garoppolo?

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett’s workout and interview have “pretty much clinched” the Browns’ decision to take him with the No. 1 overall pick.

Sources tell Cabot that the Browns are still expected to try to trade for Patriots backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, even though one report mentioned that New England has no plans to make him available. A source tells Cabot that it could cost the Browns as much as a first-round pick this year and in 2018 to get Garoppolo from the Patriots.

However, she doesn’t think Cleveland will be willing to offer that much for Garoppolo. One compromise could be the Browns offering their No. 12 overall pick and another pick later on in the draft for Garoppolo, according to Cabot.

Garoppolo figures to be an appealing option for a number of teams to consider, but it’s worth mentioning that any team acquiring him in a trade will need to sign him to a long-term contract or use the franchise tag on him next year.

This should be factored into an offer for him.

The 49ers and Bears have also been tossed out as potential trade partners for the Patriots. Although, it appears as though the Bears are set to sign Mike Glennon, which would obviously take them out of the market.

Garoppolo, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $3,483,898 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $820,077 to go along with a $75,000 workout bonus for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Garoppolo completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 502 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions for the Patriots over the course of six games.

We’ll have more regarding a Garoppolo trade as the news is available.
