Browns Releasing WR Dwayne Bowe Today

Veteran LB Karlos Dansby told Mary Kay Cabot Wednesday that he expects the Browns to release WR Dwayne Bowe at some point in the near future.

  • According to Cabot, the Browns will be releasing Bowe today.

It’s surprising that Bowe lasted this long in Cleveland, given how disappointing he was for a team that really needed help at receiver last year.

The Browns are clearly getting younger across the board, so even if they thought Bowe could contribute, they’re probably better off looking for a younger player to develop in the long run.

Bowe, 31, is in the final year of his two-year, $12.5 million contract that included $9 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $6.15 million for the 2016 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $3.4 million in available cap space while creating $4.6 million in dead money.

In 2015, Bowe appeared in just seven games and recorded five receptions for 53 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
