Browns Expected To Have Interest In Iowa State HC Matt Campbell

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports that Iowa State HC Matt Campbell is being talked about in numerous NFL front offices as a potential head-coaching candidate to watch during the offseason with the Browns being a team expected to have interest.

La Canfora notes that Campbell is an Oho native who coached previously at Toledo and grew up a Browns fan and he has a strong reputation among NFL scouts and evaluators.

According to La Canfora, Browns GM John Dorsey is looking for someone stable who can relate to his young and emerging team.

However, La Canfora says it remains to be seen if Campbell will be open to listening to NFL overtures after the season.

Even so, Campbell is reportedly “very much on the radar” of NFL teams.

“I like him a lot,” an NFL executive tells La Canfora. “He has the personality for it. He’s been highly productive. I can see why he would appeal to NFL teams. He is definitely generating a buzz.”

Campbell, 38, began working for Bowling Green State as a graduate assistant back in 2003. He spent a few years at Mount Union as their offensive coordinator/OL coach before returning to Bowling Green in 2007.

Toledo hired Campbell as their run game coordinator for the 2009 season and he eventually worked his way up to head coach before departing for the Iowa State job in 2016.

During his three years at Iowa State, Campbell has led them to a record of 53-33 (61.62 percent)
