Browns Expected To Move On From Johnny Manziel After Hiring Hue Jackson

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Browns’ decision to hire Hue Jackson as their new head coach will “trigger the end” of the Johnny Manziel in Cleveland.

According to Rapoport, Jackson and the Browns are expected to move on from Manziel at some point in the coming months.

This coincides with a report from Mike Garafolo who mentioned that Jackson made it clear that he wanted to move on from Manziel if he were to hired as the team’s next head coach.

Jason La Canfora adds that the Browns will look hard at drafting a quarterback with their first-round pick.

This shouldn’t come as a complete surprise, seeing as there has been talk for months now that Manziel was likely done with the Browns. Some have even said that he’s prefer to play for the Cowboys, who are expected to be in the market for a backup quarterback.

Manziel, 23, is in the second year of his four-year, $8,247,250 rookie contract that included $6,702,625 guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $794,936 this season and another $1,169,872 in 2016.

This season, Manziel has appeared in nine games and thrown for 1,500 yards while completing 57.8 percent of his passes to go along with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. Manziel has also ran for 230 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 31 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players.
