Browns Fire HC Pat Shurmur & GM Tom Heckert

Jay Glazer reports that the Cleveland Browns have fired head coach Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert.

Every since Jimmy Haslam took over as owner of the Browns, it seemed almost certain that they would be parting ways with Shurmur and Heckert.

We’re going to begin very quickly to look for a new head coach first, then GM,’‘ said Haslam, per Mark Kay Cabot.

Browns executives told reporters that they want the next head coach to be involved in their search for a GM, which typically goes against the grain, but is similar to what the Rams did with Jeff Fisher.

The Browns could target Oregon head coach Chip Kelly or Penn State’s Bill O’Brien in the coming days. Andy Reid could also be an option for them as well.

Shurmur is reportedly a option to takeover as the Vikings offensive coordinator next season, but their recent success could change things.
