Update:

Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns have also reached out to former Jaguars HC Gus Bradley about their defensive coordinator job.

Alex Marvez is now reporting that Gregg Williams has until Monday to decide whether he wants to accept the Browns’ defensive coordinator job.

  • Jason La Canfora would be “very surprised” if the Brown don’t hire Gregg Williams to replace DC Ray Horton. La Canfora adds that significant changes are anticipated for the Browns’ defensive staff.

Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns haven’t fired DC Ray Horton just yet. However, she says that it’s been discussed for a few days now and could happen at some point in the near future.

  • According to Cabot, other changes are forthcoming for the Browns’ coaching staff.

Alex Marvez of the Sporting News reports that the Cleveland Browns are making a change at defensive coordinator and parting ways with Ray Horton.

According to Marvez, the Browns have already offered the job to Gregg Williams and Broncos DC Wade Phillips has also been contacted about the job.

A report from earlier in the day mentioned that the Rams would like to keep Williams and their defensive coaching staff in place. However, it sounds like they could have competition for his services.

Phillips is unlikely to be back with the Broncos, according to reports, and is already a free agent, so I’m sure he’s already exploring all available options right now.

Horton, 56, began his NFL coaching career back in 1994 as an assistant for the Redskins. He’s worked for several teams over the years including the Bengals, Lions, Steelers, Cardinals and Titans before taking over as the Browns’ defensive coordinator last year after they hired Hue Jackson.

In 2016, the Browns’ defense was No. 30 in points allowed, No. 31 in rushing yards allowed, No. 32 in passing yards allowed and No. 31 in total yards allowed.

We’ll have more regarding the Browns’ defensive coordinator job as the news is available.
