Browns Will Start Jason Campbell Against The Patriots

Update:

Browns HC Rob Chudzinski announced on Friday that Jason Campbell will be their starting quarterback for Week 14’s game against the Patriots.

Campbell finally received full clearance from the team’s medical staff, which means they won’t be forced to start either Alex Tanney or Caleb Hanie this weekend.

Campbell has been able to make some plays down the field in recent weeks, so it will be interesting to see if they can hang around against an improving Patriots’ offense.

Browns HC Rob Chudzinski announced that QB Jason Campbell has been cleared to return to practice on Thursday, per Tony Grossi.

Campbell will still need doctors to clear him in order for him to suit up this weekend.

Meanwhile, Brandon Weeden has yet to receive clearance to practice following a concussion he suffered this past weekend.

It looked like the Browns would have to go with either Alex Tanney or Caleb Hanie, but there is at least a decent shot that Campbell will be able to play on Sunday. Of the two, Tanney reportedly looked better throwing the ball than Hanie during Wednesday’s practice that was open to the media, according to the Akron Beacon-Journal.

Browns HC Rob Chudzinski told reporters on Wednesday that quarterbacks Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden still have not been cleared to practice.

Chudzinski added that they have been cleared for activity, but have yet to pass all of the necessary concussion protocol to return to the field.

It’s a very fluid situation,” said Chudzinski, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “It’s unique. It’s something I haven’t done before.

That means the Browns could be forced to start either Alex Tanney or Caleb Hanie, who just signed with the team on Tuesday.

Chudzinski mentioned that they will “tailor a package to either guy” if Campbell or Weeden are not cleared by Friday when he expects to name his Week 14 starter.

Cleveland are already in a tailspin, so this is hardly the type of thing that will help them against a playoff bound Patriots team. As things stand right now, the Browns have a shot at securing the No. 1 overall selection in the next four weeks.
