Browns Have Spoke To Teams About Trading Up Into Top 10 Including The Redskins

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Browns have had talks with the Redskins about possibly trading up to No. 5 overall in the past week.

According to Rapoport, Cleveland has spoken to or touched base with most of the team’s in the Top 10.

Redskins GM Scot McCloughan said during Monday’s press conference that they would like to turn their seven draft picks into 10 or so via trades.

“I’d love to get 10 (picks) out of this thing,” McCloughan said

Albert Breer reports that the Redskins and Jets are both in the trade-down market right now, but it will ultimately come down to the type offers they would receive and whether or not they deem them to be acceptable.

Rapoport mentions that the Vikings are another team looking to trade back, given that the No. 11 overall pick becomes cheaper in terms of the fifth-year option because the salary won’t be based on the transition tag.

Getting back to the Browns, several reports have said that they have been exploring ways to trade up for a quarterback like Oregon’s Marcus Mariota. However, unless they’re able to get to No. 2 overall, it’s unlikely Mariota will be an option for them.

Cleveland could use a top-tier receiver, so depending on what happens with Amari Cooper, Kevin White, or DeVante Parker, it’s conceivable that they could consider moving up for one of them if the price is reasonable.

That’s purely speculation on my part.

We have the Browns taking Washington DT Danny Shelton and USC WR Nelson Agholor in our recently updated two-round NFL Mock Draft.

  1. If the Browns are trying to trade up to 5 it’s not for a WR, there will be a good one there at 12… If the Browns move up to 5 it is because they are trying to get ahead of the Bears and Giants to get Danny Shelton…
