Browns Have Syracuse HC Doug Marrone & Patriots OC Josh McDaniels As Backup Options?

Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports tweets that he’s “hearing” that the Browns could look to target Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone and Patriots OC Josh McDaniels if they end up missing out on Oregon head coach Chip Kelly in the coming days.

Browns are reportedly prepared to make Kelly an “offer he can’t refuse,” so it’s say to suggest that they have a very good shot at reaching an agreement with him.

McDaniels has said that he would like to remain with the Patriots, but that could always change depending on what happens in the postseason. Despite a tumultuous tenure as the Broncos head coach, McDaniels is still respected enough in NFL circles that he could and probably will get another shot at running a team.

Marrone is really an interesting option. Although there wasn’t a lot of talk about him a few weeks ago, his name continues to be linked to a number of head coaching vacancies and it’s to the point where he has a reasonable shot at landing an NFL gig. He’s already met with the Browns, so it seems realistic that Cleveland could shift gears and target him if they get the impression that Kelly isn’t interested in joining them.
