Browns “Increasingly Motivated” To Trade Out Of No. 2 Overall?

Sources tell Jason La Canfora of CBS that the Browns have become “increasingly motivated to deal the second-overall pick.

“They want to move out of that spot and everyone knows it,” an NFL executive tells La Canfora.

According to La Canfora, the Browns want Cal QB Jared Goff, but executives around the league insist that he’s likely headed to the Rams at No. 1 overall. Cleveland reportedly views the gap between Goff and Carson Wentz as “fairly wide” and using their No. 2 overall pick on Wentz would be a “tough sell.

La Canfora adds that several executives have told him that Cleveland should have already traded LT Joe Thomas and used the draft picks they acquired in that deal to beat the Rams for the No. 1 pick.

Otherwise they could still trade Thomas and use the No. 2 pick on OT Larmey Tunsil.

It’s worth mentioning that there have been some conflicting reports about who the Rams are really targeting at the top of the draft. Even so, there’s enough buzz about the Rams and Goff to believe that he could very well be their guy.

Assuming that the Browns aren’t as sold on Wentz as many expected, it’s certainly possible that they could find a trade partner in the coming weeks and pick up some more draft picks in the process to continue their rebuild.

For what it’s worth, both Lance Zierlein and Dane Brugler previously mentioned that the Browns could consider moving back and targeting a quarterback in the second round.

Cleveland signed Robert Griffin III to a two-year contract worth $15 million and included $6.75 million guaranteed, so they may prefer to see what he can do with a fresh start and in Hue Jackson’s offense while focusing on a long-term rebuild through the draft.

One potential option for the Browns in a trade back could be MSU QB Connor Cook, as there has been a decent amount of buzz about being a popular option at the end of round one or possibly in round two.

We’ll have more regarding the Browns’ draft plans as the news is available.
