Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that both the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles have Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien on their shortlist of possible head coach replacements.
O’Brien finished a successful year that included being named Big Ten Coach of the Year in his first season with a reeling Penn State program. Several NFL teams reportedly have their eye on O’Brien.
O’Brien was apparently under the assumption that the Jerry Sandusky scandal was just a legal issue and wouldn’t come with extra penalties from the NCAA, but that obviously wasn’t the case.
It’s worth noting that O’Brien has a $9 million buyout in his current contract, which could really be an issue for NFL teams that are considering him as a potential replacement.
