Browns Waive K Zane Gonzalez

Update:

Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns have informed K Zane Gonzalez that he’s being waived to make room for new K Greg Joseph.

According to Adam Schefter, Browns K Zane Gonzalez has been dealing with a groin injury and will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Schefter says that the Browns may elect to waive him with an injury settlement or use an injury designation upon cutting him, which would allow him to revert to injured reserve.

The Browns are hosting free agent kickers for tryouts on Monday including Cairo Santos and Blair Walsh, so it won’t be surprising to see them sign a new kicker this week.

Gonzalez, 23, is a former seventh-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $2.48 million contract and is set to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Gonzalez has appeared in two games and converted just two of five field goal attempts and three of five extra point tries for the Browns.
