Browns Looking To Trade Out Of No. 2 Pick, Possibly Target QB In Round 2?

According to Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, there is “more and more smoke” regarding the Browns and their No. 2 overall pick right now.

  • Zierlein mentions that the Browns could be willing to trade out of the No. 2 overall pick look to target a quarterback in round two.
  • Beyond that, Zierlein predicts “something big will happen” inside top five picks.

Dane Brugler of CBS Sports adds that the Browns are looking to accumulate more draft picks, and he wouldn’t be shocked to see Cleveland trade out of the No. 2 spot.

The consensus belief has been for months now has been that the Browns were likely to take either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff at No. 2 overall. However, there has been increasing speculation that the Browns may actually have different plans.

Cleveland signed Robert Griffin III to a two-year contract worth $15 million and included $6.75 million guaranteed, so they may prefer to see what he can do with a fresh start and in Hue Jackson’s offense while focusing on a long-term rebuild through the draft.

One potential option for the Browns in a trade back could be MSU QB Connor Cook, as there has been a decent amount of buzz about being a popular option at the end of round one or possibly in round two.

It’s hard to put a lot of stock in any draft reports at this time of the year, but it’s at least something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

For what it’s worth, we have the Browns taking Wentz at No. 2 overall in our most recent 2016 NFL Mock Draft.
