Browns LT Joe Thomas Won’t Request Trade Out Of Cleveland

Pat McManamon of ESPN reports that Browns LT Joe Thomas won’t request to be traded ahead of this year’s trade deadline on Nov. 1.

McManamon’s source adds that Thomas wants to remain with the Browns, even though they’re currently winless and in the midst of a rebuild.

The Browns have also said that they would prefer to hold on to Thomas, rather than trade him away for future assets. However, McManamon says that this still doesn’t guarantee that Thomas won’t be traded in the coming weeks, as there’s still a chance a team could step up and make the Browns an offer they can’t refuse.

Last we heard regarding Thomas, Jason Cole of B/R reported that there could be “significant trade action” at this year’s trade deadline with the Browns being the team to watch.

Cleveland could have the two best players on the trading block in Thomas and CB Joe Haden, who both have reasonable contracts to be assumed as part of a trade.

It’s worth mentioning that Thomas is owed roughly $4 million for the remainder of the 2016 season, so this is an important consideration for any potential trade.

Thomas, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2007. He’s currently in the sixth year of his eight-year, $92 million contract that included $44 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $8.3 million for the 2016 season.

This season, Thomas has appeared in five games for the Browns and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 6 offensive tackle out of 76 qualifying players.
