Browns To Make A Decision Regarding ILB D’Qwell Jackson Before His Roster Bonus Is Due

New Cleveland Browns GM Ray Farmer told reporters that they plan on making a decision regarding ILB D’Qwell Jackson and his $4.1 million roster bonus before the due date of March 15, per Nate Ulrich.

  • Farmer wouldn’t address the possibility of using the franchise tag on impending free agents like S T.J. Ward and C Alex Mack, per Nate Ulrich.

Jackson, 30, signed a five-year deal worth $42.5 million that included $10.4 million guaranteed with the Browns back in 2012. He’ll make $2.6 million for the 2014 season, but his $4 million roster bonus is actually pretty high.

The Browns have plenty of cap space to work with, but they also have some quality free agents to address as well as some roster holes to fill this offseason.  It seems like a possibility that the Browns could approach Jackson regarding a restructured deal that would limit his 2014 cap figure.

Jackson contributed 139 tackles, one sack, an interception and a forced fumble over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 42 inside linebacker last season.
