Browns Poised To Sign LT Nate Solder, But Move Hinges On Joe Thomas’ Decision

Update:

According to Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns are still awaiting word on what Joe Thomas plans to do and the signing of LT Nate Solder hinges on whether or not Thomas will return for the 2018 season.

A source tells Cabot that the Browns aren’t sure if they’ll hear back from Thomas regarding his future today.

“I don’t think so,” Cabot’s source said.

A source close to Thomas has told Cabot that the recent flurry of moves they made last week likely increases the chances that Thomas will be back.

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, the Browns are making a run at signing Patriots free agent LT Nate Solder to replace Joe Thomas.

The Browns have the kind of money to make this a really tough decision for Solder and the Patriots, who are interested in retaining him.

The Texans are also in the mix for Solder, seeing as they need a left tackle after they traded Duane Brown to the Seahawks last year.

Solder is by far the best available left tackle on the open market and should end up being one of the big winners in free agency this year.

Solder, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Patriots back in 2011. He’s played all seven seasons for the Patriots and is now in position to test the free agent market for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2017, Solder appeared in 16 games for the Patriots and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 33 offensive tackle out of 85 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100  – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
