Browns Reportedly Offered Pick No. 19 Overall For QB Sam Bradford

Update:

NFL Media’s Charley Casserly reiterated on Monday’s edition of NFL AM that the Browns offered a first-round pick for for QB Sam Bradford.

  • However, Casserly isn’t sure if this deal was offered to the Eagles or the Rams or both.
  • According to Adam Caplan, the Browns specifically offered their No. 19 overall pick for Bradford.

Eagles HC Chip Kelly and Rams HC Jeff Fisher mentioned during their press conferences earlier in the week that they both received an offer that included a first-round pick for QB Sam Bradford.

Fisher specifically referred to it as a late first-round pick. However, sounds like the Browns may have been the team to offer a first-round selection for Bradford.

NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly mentioned during an interview with Michael Kay show on ESPN New York 98.7 that the Browns offered the Eagles a first-round pick for Bradford.

“I’m looking at Cleveland, the information I have is that they offered a (first-round pick) for Sam Bradford, ok, so clearly they’re aggressive in trying to get a quarterback,” Casserly said, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com. “They’ve got two (first-round picks). (They) can’t be sold on what (they’ve) got. I think they’ll be aggressive in the draft.

Assuming this is accurate, it’s more likely that Cleveland offered their No. 19 overall pick, rather than their No. 12 selection for Bradford.

A source told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN earlier in the week that the Rams “never felt Cleveland was serious” about trading for Bradford.

According to Fowler, there were a few calls back and forth, but they never led to a serious push because the Browns weren’t overly aggressive.

  • Earlier in the day, Josina Anderson of ESPN mentioned that he has spoken to coaches at West Virginia’s Pro Day who said that they aren’t convinced that Bradford will end up being the Eagles starting quarterback, as they don’t see him as a system fit in Philadelphia.
  • Instead, the coaches told Anderson that they could see Bradford being trade bait for the Eagles to trade up to No. 2 overall.

The Browns front office has said that they will explore all of their options at quarterback, even after they used a first-round pick on Johnny Manziel last year, so you can’t rule out the possibility that they could use their draft picks to get a quarterback either in the draft or to acquire one via a trade.
