Browns Not Discussing A Contract Extension With QB Brian Hoyer

According to the agent for Browns QB Brian Hoyer, there hasn’t been any progress towards a contract extension that would keep him in Cleveland beyond the 2014 season.

“Nothing of substance,” Linta said regarding contract talks, via ESPN Cleveland. “It’s too hard of a deal to do. I think (Browns GM) Ray Farmer realizes it’s too hard of a deal to do, too. The best thing for both sides is let the water seeks its own level.

“I can do a deal much better in September than I can do now. I can do a better deal in January.”

It’s pretty obvious that the decision to draft Johnny Manziel in round one is going to have an impact on the team’s willingness to offer Hoyer a contract extension, even if he ends up beating out the rookie for the starting job.

There have been some rumors that Hoyer could be a trade target for the Texans, however, it appears to be a highly speculative idea as of now.

Hoyer, 28, is entering the final year of his current contract and will make $1 million for the 2014 season. The Browns already paid him a $250,000 roster bonus on March 15.

Last year, he totaled 615 yards passing while completing 59.4 percent of his passes and throwing five touchdowns over the course of three games.
