Browns Notes: Josh Gordon, Jabrill Peppers, Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward

Josh Gordon

Browns WR Jarvis Landry mentioned during an interview with Jim Rome on Thursday that he believes Josh Gordon can be “unstoppable.”

The size that he has and his ability to be able to get in and out of cuts, I think that’s one of the most impressive things I’ve recognized and noticed about him,” Landry said. “The more he continues to hone in on that and grow as far as in route running, listen, the kid’s unstoppable.

Jabrill Peppers

Browns assistant DBs coach Jerod Kruse says that Jabrill Peppers has benefited greatly from playing free safety last year and having to learn on the fly.

“I think big picture he would tell you that he is better now for having that experience and seeing it from top-down and the big picture of it all,” Kruse said, via ClevelandBrowns.com. “It helps him understand going on when he is playing closer to the box now with what everyone thinks behind him. It will help him going forward.

…We were the No. 1 team in the league for not allowing deep balls last year. A huge part of that was him and how we played him and how he responded at that position. We’re all gonna have that when people look at us that way and put us in that lens and don’t live up to that lens from their perspective. I don’t think from his perspective he thought it was a step back at all last year.

Baker Mayfield & Denzel Ward

  • There are just 14 draft picks from the 2018 class who have yet to sign their rookie contracts and two of them happen to Browns — QB Baker Mayfield and CB Denzel Ward. (NFLTR)
  • Joel Corry points out that this presents an interesting dynamics for Cleveland, considering that Ward has no incentive to sign before Mayfield. If Mayfield gets guarantees without offsets, Ward will likely feel like he should get the same.
  • Corry notes that 2017 No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett signed a contract with offsets.
