Browns Place Johnny Manziel On I.R. & Activate DL John Hughes

The Cleveland Browns announced that they have officially placed rookie QB Johnny Manziel on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

The team also signed LS Charley Hughlett to a contract, activated DL John Hughes from short-term injured reserve and placed DL Ishmaa’ily Kitchen on injured reserve.

The Manziel news comes as no surprise given that Browns HC Mike Pettine announced Monday that his hamstring injury would keep him out of Week 17’s matchup against the Ravens.

The Browns have already added Tyler Thigpen to their roster and have been preparing undrafted rookie Connor Shaw to start their season finale.

Manziel’s rookie year ends with him completing 51.4 percent of his passes for 175 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions to go along with 29 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Hughes, 25, was taken in the third round pick of the 2012 draft by the Browns. He has appeared in 31 games during his first two years in the league.

This season, Hughes has played a total of 167 snaps for the Browns’ defense and recorded 10 tackles and a pass defense.
