Browns Sign S Trae Elston, Place S Derrick Kindred On NFI List

The Cleveland Browns announced Wednesday that they’ve signed S Trae Elston to a contract and placed rookie S Derrick Kindred on the non-football injury list with a broken ankle.

Kindred, 22, was taken in the fourth round of this year’s NFL draft. He’s currently in the first year of his four-year, $2.84 million contract and stands to make base salaries $450,000 and $540,000 over the next two years.

In 2016, Kindred appeared in 12 games for the Browns and recorded 46 tackles, no interceptions and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 80 safety out of 89 qualifying players.

Elston, 22, wound up signing on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss back in May. He was unfortunately waived coming out of the preseason but signed on to the Buccaneers’ practice squad in October.

The Buccaneers cut Elston loose a month later.

During his college career, Elston appeared in 50 games and recorded 252 tackles, 34 pass defenses, four interceptions, 11 tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
