Browns Interviewing Packers Exec Eliot Wolf For Front Office Job

Update:

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, citing a league source, reports that the Browns will interview Packers executive Eliot Wolf for a front office position this week.

  • Mike Garafolo confirms the report and adds that the interview will take place on Tuesday.

New Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said Monday that he would like to retain Wolf as part of the front office in Green Bay, but he also understands that there will be other opportunities for him.

“I surely want him to be part of this,” Gutekunst said. “I think the world of Eliot Wolf, not only as a scout, but he’s very close to me as a friend. He obviously has other opportunities if he wants them. That’s kind of between me and Eliot, but I’m very hopeful that he’ll be here.

The Packers could block Wolf from taking another job, given that he’s still under contract with the team. However, it sounds like they won’t be doing so this time around.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Browns are planning to go after Packers executive Eliot Wolf after he was skipped over for the team’s GM position.

It’s worth mentioning that the Browns have hired John Dorsey and Alonzo Highsmith, both of whom have previously worked with Wolf in Green Bay.

Many have said that they wouldn’t be surprised to see Wolf move on now that the Packers have made the decision to hire Brian Gutekunst as the team’s next GM.

Asked for comment last night, Hall of Famer and former Packers GM Ron Wolf didn’t sound too happy about the decision.

At least he had the opportunity to interview for it,” Wolf told Rob Demovsky. “Obviously the people up there don’t think he’s worthy or they would’ve hired him. End of discussion.”

Another possibility for Wolf could the Raiders, as he previously worked with current Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie while in Green Bay and it was actually his father who led the GM research that resulted in McKenzie getting the job.

Reports have said that the Packers would like to convince Wolf to stay as a key member of their front office, but it’s clear there are going to be opportunities for him elsewhere.

We’ll have more regarding Wolf as the news is available.
