Report: Browns Expected To Pursue Texans’ RB Ben Tate Next Offseason

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Cleveland Browns the Browns “covet” Texans RB  Ben Tate and have plans pursue signing him to a contract this offseason.

The Browns just shockingly traded Trent Richardson to the Colts, so they clearly need a running back to build around. As of now, Cleveland has Willis McGahee and Bobby Rainey as their running backs, so it’s very unlikely that either of them will be a part of their long-term plans.

Tate will be a unrestriced free agent once the season is over and is expected to garner a decent amount of interest on the open market. However, with signs of a declining Arian Foster, the Texans could try to lock him before free agency is even underway. Either way, there should be plenty of interest in him come next March and the Browns will have plenty of cap space to work with.

We have Tate listed as the No. 38 player in our Top 5- 2014 Free Agents list.
