Browns QB Cody Kessler Hoping To Clear Concussion Protocol & Play In Week 8

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that Browns rookie QB Cody Kessler is holding out hope of being cleared in time for their Week 8 game against the Jets.

Kessler suffered a concussion during Sunday’s loss to the Bengals and was replaced by fellow rookie Kevin Hogan

Browns HC Hue Jackson mentioned after the game that it’s possible veteran QB Josh McCown could return this week, so that’s at least something worth keeping an eye on the in the coming days.

Kessler, 23, was taken with the No. 93 overall pick by the Browns a few weeks ago. He was an interesting selection for the Browns, considering that they elected to trade out of the No. 2 spot and passed on Carson Wentz.

Kessler signed a four-year contract worth $3,004,788 that included a signing bonus of $664,788 with the Browns.

This season, Kessler has completed 66.9 percent of his passes for 947 yards to go along with four touchdowns and an interception over the course of five games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 quarterback out of 34 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Kessler as the news is available.
