Browns QB Josh McCown Medically Cleared To Play In Week 8

Browns HC Hue Jackson announced Wednesday that veteran QB Josh McCown has been medically cleared to play on Sunday.

Jackson did, however, say that he needs to see more from McCown in practice this before he decides who will be the team’s starter for their Week 8 game against the Jets.

On Sunday, rookie QB Cody Kessler left the game after he sustained a concussion and was replaced by fellow rookie Kevin Hogan. Kessler remains in the concussion protocol as of now, so his status for this week is obviously in question.

McCown, 37, signed a three-year, $14 million contract that includes $6.25 million guaranteed with the Browns back in March of last year. He stands to make base salaries of $4.375 million (2016) and $3.625 million (2017) over the duration of the agreement.

In 2016, McCown has thrown for 260 yards while completing 60.6 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding McCown and his return as the news is available.
