Browns QB Josh McCown “Week-To-Week” With Shoulder/Clavicle Injury

Update:

Browns HC Hue Jackson confirmed that veteran QB Josh McCown is out for Week 3’s game against the Dolphins and added that they expect to bring in a veteran quarterback at some point this week.

In regards to McCown’s injury, Jackson said he’s dealing with a shoulder/clavicle issue right now, per Nate Ulrich.

Jackson confirmed that rookie QB Cody Kessler will start this week and mentioned that there’s a possibility they could promote rookie Kevin Hogan from their practice squad in the coming days.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Browns are not placing McCown on injured reserve, which means they expect him to be back at some point this season.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Josh McCown‘s shoulder injury is believed to be serious and the team is now preparing to start rookie QB Cody Kessler or someone else, depending on whether Kessler is ready for the opportunity.

  • According to Cabot, McCown is in a good amount of pain, and the team expects him to be out awhile. Cabot adds that the Browns will explore their options at quarterback.
  • Ian Rapoport says that McCown is in “excruciating pain” right now.
  • Tony Grossi mentions that Browns HC Hue Jackson brought in Ricky Stanzi for a tryout, so he could be someone to keep an eye on if the Browns do add a quarterback this week.

Mike Silver of NFL Media reports that the Browns are bracing for possible bad news regarding Josh McCown‘s shoulder injury.

  • Although, Silver adds that Cleveland won’t know the extent of McCown’s injury until tomorrow morning.

McCown returned to the game after briefly heading to the locker room. However, McCown would take a number of shots throughout the game, so it was possible that his shoulder injury could end up being a similar situation as what happened with Robert Griffin III last week.

We’ll have more regarding the McCown as the news is available.

Browns QB Josh McCown was taken to the locker room with a shoulder injury and replaced by rookie QB Cody Kessler.

The Browns announced that McCown is questionable to return to Sunday’s game. McCown is getting X-rays taken on his left shoulder.

McCown was taking over for Robert Griffin III, who is out for an extended period of time with his own injury.

In today’s game, McCown is five of seven for 92 yards passing and two touchdowns.

McCown, 37, signed a three-year, $14 million contract that includes $6.25 million guaranteed with the Browns back in March of last year. He stands to make base salaries of $4.375 million (2016) and $3.625 million (2017) over the duration of the agreement.

In 2015, McCown appeared in eight games and threw for 2,109 yards while completing 63.7 percent of his passes to go along with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 quarterback out of 38 qualifying players.
