Browns QB Robert Griffin III Ruled Out From Week 16 With A Concussion

Update:

The Cleveland Browns declared the QB Robert Griffin III sustained a concussion during Week 16 and that he will not return.

—————–

The Cleveland Browns announced that QB Robert Griffin III is being taken to the locker room from Week 16’s game to be evaluated for a possible concussion.

Third-round rookie QB Cody Kessler will step in to replace Griffin.

The Browns officially ruled out Griffin, so this is something worth keeping an eye on as the season comes to a close.

He landed on the team’s injured reserve after the first week of the regular season with a fractured coracoid bone, making the first year of his contract a clear disappointment.

Griffin, 26, signed a two-year, $15 million contract that includes $6.75 million guaranteed with the Browns back in March.  He’ll make a base salary of $3.25 million for the 2016 season.

The Browns will face a decision regarding Griffin next March, as he has a $750,000 roster bonus at that point. If the Browns pick up his bonus, RGIII would be paid a $6 million base salary with $750,000 more being available in per-game bonuses.

Entering today’s game, Griffin recorded 490 passing yards on 82 attempts, completing 50 percent of his passes for zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 116 yards on 20 attempts and scored two rushing touchdowns.

We will provide more information regarding Griffin’s possible concussion as the news becomes available.
