Browns Release Veteran DL Desmond Bryant

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Browns are releasing veteran DL Desmond Bryant Tuesday night. According to PFT, the Browns did not give Bryant an opportunity to take a pay cut to remain in Cleveland.

Bryant wound up missing the entire 2016 season with a torn pectoral muscle.

Bryant, 31, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Harvard back in 2009. After four years in Oakland, Bryant signed on with the Browns in 2013.

Bryant was in the final year of his five-year, $34 million contract that included $15 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $7 million for the 2017 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Bryant will free up $3 million of available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.

In 2015, Bryant appeared in 14 games for the Browns and recorded 33 tackles, six sacks and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 54 interior defensive lineman out of 123 qualifying players.
