Jets Have Expressed Interest In WR Cecil Shorts

Update:

Dom Cosentino of NJ.com, citing a person with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Jets have reached out free agent WR Cecil Shorts.

The Jets have already brought in veteran WR Brandon Marshall, but they could still use more help at the position.

As things stand right now, there hasn’t been a great deal of buzz regarding Shorts, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him end up being a decent value signing in the end.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Browns are still interested in free agent WR Cecil Shorts, even after reaching an agreement with WR Brian Hartline.

  • Fowler is quick, however, to note that he does not know the extent of that interest.

Shorts, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Jaguars, who played out his four-year, $2,672,146 rookie contract that included $443,380 guaranteed, and should be able to secure a raise in the coming weeks.

In 2014, Shorts caught 66 receptions for 777 yards receiving and three touchdowns over the course of 13 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 receiver out of 110 qualifying players.

We have Shorts at No. 56 in our Top 2015 NFL Free Agents List.
