Browns Rumors: Alex Smith, Mitchell Schwartz, Evan Moore

Alex Smith

Browns TE Alex Smith could be in jeopardy of losing his roster spot to newly drafted TE Brad Smelley, via the Northern Ohio News-Herald.

Smelley is expected to compete for snaps at fullback as well as tight end, but the fact that the Browns love to collect tight ends, makes it seem like there’s a pretty good chance that someone is on the outs in Cleveland.

Mitchell Schwartz

Browns head coach Pat Shurmur mentioned that he’s not sure that second-round pick OT Mitchell Schwartz is NFL-ready at this point.

I don’t know about NFL-ready,” Shurmur said, via the Akron Beacon-Journal. “He’s very sound in his fundamentals. That will give him a chance to speed up the process to be an NFL player.”

The good news for Schwartz is that there’s still plenty of time for him to win the spot and little competition standing in his way. Clearly, there’s work to be done on his part, but that can be said for any rookie that’s currently in Browns camp, other than Trent Richardson.

Evan Moore

Going back to the Browns tight end situation for a minute, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer mentions that Evan Moore and Jordan Cameron are in a good position to see more playing time this season.

Cabot notes that the addition of Mitchell Schwartz should increase the total number of snaps for their receiving tight ends. This obviously hurts blocking tight ends like Alex Smith.
