Browns Shut Rookie QB Johnny Manziel Down For The Season

The Cleveland Browns HC Mike Pettine announced Monday that QB Johnny Manziel‘s hamstring injury will keep him out of Week 17’s matchup against the Ravens and end his first year in the NFL.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer recently mentioned that the Browns could start promote QB Connor Shaw from their practice squad and start him in Week 17, due to Brian Hoyer and Manziel’s injuries.

Depending on Hoyer’s health, the Browns could consider signing veteran QB Rex Grossman if they need a back up for Sunday’s game.

Over the weekend, Cabot reported that even after using a first-round pick on Manziel, the Browns will explore “all of their options at quarterback” next year.

According to Cabot, the Browns are willing to consider the idea of trading up into the top-five to get Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.

The Browns could still bring back Hoyer, but that seems like an unlikely option now that he’s been benched in favor of Manziel.

This season, Manziel has completed 51.4 percent of his passes for 175 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions to go along with 29 yards rushing and a touchdown.
