Browns Split Internally About Whether To Take Myles Garrett Or Mitch Trubisky

Texas A&M DE/OLB Myles Garrett has widely been considered the odds-onĀ favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft.

However, an NFL executive tells Adam Schefter that he could see them going in a different direction and possibly take a quarterback to open the draft.

“Don’t be surprised if Myles Garrett isn’t the No. 1 pick,” the executive tells Schefter.

Schefter’s source added that the Browns haven’t made up their mind yet who they should take with the No. 1 pick and some within the team are in favor of Garrett while others like UNC QB Mitch Trubisky.

While prior reports have said that the Browns are interested in both players, it would come as a surprise to many if Cleveland didn’t take Garrett with the No. 1 pick.

Mary Kay CabotĀ recently mentioned that she believes Cleveland is “pretty well set on” Garrett at No. 1 overall, but they’re still mulling over the idea of taking Trubisky.

If the Browns pass on taking Trubisky to open the draft, they may have to move up to get Trubisky, given that some draft experts believe he’s unlikely to still be on the board at No. 12 overall.

Garrett, 21, was been widely considered to be the top prospect in this year’s draft for some time now. He put together an impressive showing at the scouting Combine and all indications have been that he’s likely to be the firstĀ pick later this month.

During his three-year college career, Garrett has recorded 140 tackles, 31 sacks, an interception, five pass defenses, a fumble recovery and seven forced fumbles.

Trubisky, 22, is considered by a number of draft experts to be the No. 1 quarterback prospect in this year’s draft class, even though he started just one year at North Carolina.

During his three-year college career, Trubisky has thrown for 4,762 yards while completing 67.5 percent of his passes to go along with 41 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over the course of 31 games. He’s also contributed another 439 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

We have the Browns taking Garrett at No. 1 and Trubisky at No. 12 in the First Round of ourĀ 2017 NFL Mock Draft.
