Browns Starting Josh McCown In Week 8 Against Jets

The Cleveland Browns announced Friday that Josh McCown will be their starting quarterback for Week 8’s game against the Jets.

Rookie Cody Kessler has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, as he remains in the concussion protocol.

McCown was medically cleared to play on Wednesday and all signs had pointed to him returning this week, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Rookie Kevin Hogan will operate as the team’s backup quarterback again this week.

McCown, 37, signed a three-year, $14 million contract that includes $6.25 million guaranteed with the Browns back in March of last year. He stands to make base salaries of $4.375 million (2016) and $3.625 million (2017) over the duration of the agreement.

In 2016, McCown has thrown for 260 yards while completing 60.6 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
