Browns Starting QB Austin Davis In Week 13

The Cleveland Browns announced that Austin Davis will be their starting quarterback for Week 13’s game against the Bengals.

Austin took advantage of his opportunity on Monday night. He was prepared, played well and put us in position to win,” HC Mike Pettine said. “He’s been great in the quarterback room all season and he has earned the right to start on Sunday. We expect him to play well.

This comes after the team announced that they’ve placed Josh McCown on season-ending injured reserve with a fractured collarbone.

Mike Garfolo still expects the Browns to start Johnny Manziel at some point this year, but Davis will get the first opportunity.

Davis, 26, originally signed on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss. He had a brief stint with the Dolphins before returning to the Rams in 2013.

St. Louis elected to cut him loose at the start of the season before signing a two-year, $4.173 million extension with the Browns.

This season, Davis has thrown for 77 yards on 7 of 10 attempts to go along with a touchdown and seven yards rushing.
