Browns Starting QB Johnny Manziel For Remainder Of The Season

The Cleveland Browns announced that Johnny Manziel will, in fact, take over as the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of season.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the Browns are making the switch to Johnny Manziel at quarterback for the remainder of the season.

  • According to Glazer, the Browns have informed both Manziel and Josh McCown that the change has been made.

Browns HC Mike Pettine said he planned on meeting with team owner Jimmy Haslem to discuss matters concerning the team including the possibility of going with Manziel for the remainder of the season.

Pettine did offer some positive comments about Manziel’s Week 10 performance.

“He was loose, into it,” Pettine said. “I’m just proud of the kid. Pardon my French, he played his ass off.”

Manziel, 22, is in the second year of his four-year, $8,247,250 rookie contract that included $6,702,625 guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of $794,936 this season and another $1,169,872 in 2016.

This season, Manziel has appeared in six games and thrown for 933 yards while completing 59.4 percent of his passes to go along with five touchdowns and two interceptions. Manziel has also ran for 90 yards.
