Browns To Pursue “Impact” WR This Offseason, Josh Gordon “No Longer” Part Of Their Plans

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, citing an NFL source, reports that the Cleveland Browns will pursue an “impact” receiver either in free agency, via a trade, or in this year’s NFL Draft.

This probably isn’t all that surprising given that even with Josh Gordon on their roster, they could still use more help at wide receiver.

However, the NFL just announced that Gordon has been suspended for “at least” the 2015 NFL season.

According to Robinson, Gordon “no longer factors into any plans” for the Browns moving forward.

This year’s free agent class has some marquee names like Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas, but both players are unlikely to reach the open market as their respective teams are expected to use their franchise tags if long-term agreements aren’t reached in the coming weeks.

With those two almost certain to be off the board, Randall Cobb and Jeremy Maclin appear to be next best options. The Packers and Eagles reportedly would both like to retain their free agents receivers, so there is at least some question as to whether or not they’ll be available.

Other free agent options could include: Torrey Smith, Cecil Shorts, Hakeem Nicks, and Kenny Britt.

The Browns have two first-round picks to work with this year and should be in a decent position to come away with a quality receiver.

For what it’s worth, here’s Mel Kiper’s top-10 receivers:

1. Amari Cooper, Alabama
2. DeVante Parker, Louisville
3. Kevin White, West Virginia
4. Phillip Dorsett, Miami (Fla.)
5. Breshad Perriman, Central Florida
6. Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma
7. Jaelen Strong, Arizona St.
8. Sammie Coates, Auburn
9. Devin Smith, Ohio St.
10. Jamison Crowder, Duke
